Deaf athlete Emma Ounsley is making waves as the new ‘Fury’ on the upcoming BBC reboot of Gladiators – set to storm screens later this year.
From Rugby Star to Gladiator Fury
At just 22, Ounsley has already smashed barriers. She became the first deaf player to represent England’s sevens rugby team in 2019 and is a former British Brazilian jiu-jitsu champ. Calling her casting “a dream come true,” she said, “Watching Gladiators growing up I was always in awe of their strength and power and now I am one. I hope contenders are ready to feel the Fury.”
A Legend Returns to British TV
Gladiators originally hit ITV screens in 1992, pitting everyday challengers against iconic Gladiators like Wolf, Jet, and Saracen in brutal events like Hang Tough and the Eliminator. The cult favourite wrapped in 2000, then had a brief revival on Sky in 2008-09.
New Faces, Fierce Competition
The BBC’s fresh take will be hosted by Bradley and Barney Walsh and will start filming in Sheffield this June. Joining Ounsley is CrossFit star Zack George as ‘Steel.’ The UK’s Fittest Man 2020 said, “I’m excited to bring my experience as an athlete to the show and inspire the next generation of contenders.”
What to Expect
Fans can gear up for heart-pounding action as Gladiators return stronger and fiercer. With Ounsley and George on board, expect an electrifying mix of raw power, skill, and unforgettable moments that’ll keep viewers hooked.
