Family Demands Answers After Heathrow Security Guard Dies from Asbestos Cancer
Ex-Heathrow Worker’s Tragic Death
Thomas “Tom” Longhurst, a former Heathrow Airport security guard, died last February from mesothelioma – a brutal, incurable cancer caused by asbestos. Diagnosed just months earlier in 2021, Tom passed away aged 73, leaving his family desperate for answers.
Decades on the Job, Exposure Suspected
Tom served at Heathrow’s Terminal 3 for over 30 years, from 1985 until retirement in 2016. The family believes he inhaled deadly asbestos fibres during major maintenance and construction work at the airport in the 1980s and early 1990s – when contractors disturbed hazardous materials.
Family’s Heartbreaking Plea
“Thomas was fit, active, and loved cycling, sports, and walks. He was looking forward to retirement and meeting his grandchildren – but never got the chance,” the family said.
“After his diagnosis, he suffered rapid decline and endured months of pain. We miss our husband, dad, and grandad beyond words. Please, if you know anything about asbestos risks at Heathrow Terminal 3, help us understand what happened.”
Legal Probe Launched
Industrial disease specialists Leigh Day have launched an investigation into Tom’s asbestos exposure. Asbestos claims solicitor Louisa Saville said:
“We want to hear from anyone who worked at Heathrow Terminal 3 between 1985 and 2016 and witnessed or took part in construction that might have disturbed asbestos.”
“Any piece of information, however small, could be vital for Thomas’s family.”
