Major Fire Erupts at Peckham Flats and Restaurant
Emergency crews are battling a fierce blaze at a block of flats and a restaurant on Peckham Park Road, South East London. The fire broke out just after 1pm today (May 29), sparking an urgent response from London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service.
60 Firefighters and Multiple Engines on Scene
About eight fire engines and 60 firefighters are currently tackling the blaze. Half of a flat on the second floor, containing four rooms, is reportedly engulfed in flames. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
Road Closures and Transport Disruptions
The fire has caused major disruption in Peckham. Peckham Park Road (B216) is blocked both ways at Green Hundred Road. Several bus routes are being diverted while emergency services continue their efforts.
Ambulance Service and Hazard Teams Join the Fight
London Ambulance Service has deployed ambulance crews, an incident response officer, and hazardous area response teams to the scene. Firefighters from multiple stations, including Old Kent Road, New Cross, and Peckham, are working to contain the fire and protect nearby properties.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters are tackling a fire at a block of flats and restaurant on Peckham Park Road in Peckham.”
