Fire Erupts at Historic Netley Castle in Southampton

A blazing fire has broken out in a bathroom inside Netley Castle’s grounds this morning, sparking a major emergency response.

Firefighters Rush to Scene

Crews from St Marys, Hightown, and Redbridge stations were scrambled just after 9:30am to tackle the well-developed blaze. Firefighters donned breathing apparatus and used high-pressure hose reels to battle the flames inside the Grade II listed building.

Quick Action Limits Damage

Thanks to rapid intervention, damage was confined mainly to internal partition walls, plasterboard in the bathroom, and some parts of the roof. A specialist aerial ladder platform was dispatched from Winchester to assist, covering for a new station being built in Basingstoke.

Man Treated for Burns

A 38-year-old man suffered burns to his hands and received treatment on-site from paramedics and a doctor. He was later taken to hospital by ambulance for further care.

The fire is now being fully contained as crews work to ensure the historic site remains safe.
