Emergency Landing Drama at Bristol Airport Sparks Flight Diversions
Fire crews rushed to Bristol Airport last night after a landing gear warning forced an inbound light aircraft into an emergency landing. The airport’s major emergency plan swung into action when the plane’s gear failed to confirm it was locked.
Firefighters Race to Scene
- Avon Fire & Rescue sent three fire engines to the airport at around 6.45pm – two from Bedminster and one from Temple Back.
- They joined Bristol Airport’s own fire service to manage the incident safely.
Flights Diverted to Cardiff Amid Emergency
- Several flights due to land at Bristol were diverted to nearby Cardiff Airport while the emergency unfolded.
- Two of these flights have now safely returned to Bristol with their passengers.
- The emergency involved a light aircraft arriving at 6.34pm, which triggered a warning light indicating a possible landing gear issue.
Safe Landing and Minimal Disruption
The troubled aircraft touched down safely at 7.30pm with emergency teams on standby as a precaution. Bristol Airport confirmed that normal operations are continuing, though minor delays are expected due to the knock-on effect of diversions.
“There were some brief delays, and three flights were handled at Cardiff,” a Bristol Airport spokesman said. “The situation was managed quickly and safely.”
