Firefighters Rush to Huge Bonfire Blaze on Isle of Wight

Fire crews scrambled to St Helens near Bembridge on the Isle of Wight after holidaymakers spotted thick smoke near Nobes Point this evening.

Smoke Sparks False Alarm

Just after 8.25pm, firefighters from Ryde were called to Eddington Road. Witnesses feared a property was on fire due to the heavy smoke.

Bonfire Under Control, Road Closed

  • The source was a large bonfire, not a house fire.
  • Firefighters used a hose reel to stop the blaze from spreading.
  • A road closure was put in place while crews handled the incident.

After bringing the fire under control, the crew has now left the scene. More updates to come.
