Major Blaze Rips Through Ground-Floor Flat in Southwark High-Rise
Firefighters Race to Tackle Flames
Four fire engines and about 20 firefighters were scrambled to a furious fire that tore through a ground-floor flat in an 18-storey block on New Kent Road, Southwark, late Thursday night.
- The London Fire Brigade (LFB) sprang into action after receiving 12 emergency calls, the first at 11:02 PM on February 6, 2025.
- Fire crews from Old Kent Road, Dowgate, Lambeth, and Peckham stations arrived swiftly to hammer back the blaze.
Flat Destroyed but No Injuries
The fire completely gutted a four-room flat on the ground floor of the residential tower. Miraculously, no one was hurt in the chaos.
Flames Controlled Quickly
Thanks to the quick response, firefighters had the blaze under control by 12:12 AM — just over an hour after the first call.
Investigation Underway as Cause Unknown
The cause of the fire remains a mystery. LFB’s Fire Investigation Team has launched an inquiry to find out what sparked the devastating blaze.
