Flames rip through a Nelson Road flat as four fire crews race to the rescue.

Blaze Hits Bedroom in Four-Storey Building

Four fire crews from Portchester, Cosham, and Southsea battled a fierce fire in a bedroom this Tuesday evening. Eight firefighters decked out in breathing apparatus attacked the blaze using two jets and two hose reels, all to contain the flames in the four-storey building.

Serious Smoke and Water Damage

The alarm sounded just after 7.30pm. By the time crews arrived, the bedroom was gutted. Smoke and water wrecked the rest of the flat, causing 100% damage to other rooms. Firefighters also used a high-powered fan to clear the smoke and ventilate the property.

Investigation Underway—but No Injuries Reported

The cause of the fire remains unknown. No injuries have been reported. A Southsea Fire Station spokesman said:

“When we arrived all occupants were safely out of the property. There were 16 firefighters at the scene; the cause isn’t currently known but the fire isn’t being treated as suspicious. Although residents from the first and top floor flats could return, the flat hit by the blaze is now uninhabitable. We wrapped up around 10pm.”
