Blazing Inferno Hits Camden Lock Market
Chaos erupted at Camden Lock Market as a major fire broke out just before midnight on Sunday, plunging the popular tourist hotspot into turmoil. Around 70 firefighters and ten fire engines raced to the scene to tackle the fierce blaze.
Fire Tears Through Market Stalls
The fire originated in the market’s stalls area, rapidly engulfing the first, second, third floors, and even the roof of a building housing several businesses. An aerial appliance was deployed to battle the flames towering over the area.
Station Manager David Reid said: “Crews worked hard to get the fire under control and to stop it from spreading to neighbouring buildings.”
Despite the intense blaze, firefighters brought the fire under control by 2:50am Monday. Four fire engines and about 20 firefighters remain on site this morning, damping down hot spots.
Familiar Flames Return to Camden
Camden Lock Market has seen fire before. A devastating blaze in 2008 caused significant damage. The cause of the latest fire is still under investigation.
Fire crews from Kentish Town, Euston, Soho, Paddington, Holloway, and nearby stations joined the massive effort. The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers received 37 emergency calls during the height of the blaze, which lit up the skyline and sent shockwaves through London.
