Car Crashes Into School After Smashing Minibus in Tooting
Firefighters rushed to Beclands Road in Tooting after a car slammed into a parked minibus outside a primary school. The impact pushed the minibus straight into the school building, causing damage to the structure and a nearby fence.
Driver Flees, Treated for Shock
The driver of the car fled the scene before fire crews arrived but was later treated for shock by London Ambulance Service on site. Thankfully, no pupils or staff were in the classroom at the time, so no injuries were reported.
Firefighters Secure Scene and Assess Damage
Station Commander Mark Nunan said: “The motorist had collided with a parked minibus and it was pushed into part of the school.”
Firefighters quickly cordoned off the area and tackled a burst pipe inside the building caused by the crash. They worked with a council structural engineer to declare the building safe.
Quick Response from Tooting Fire Station
The London Fire Brigade was called at 8:02 a.m., with the incident resolved by 9:58 a.m. Two engines from Tooting and two rescue units from nearby stations attended the scene, ensuring no further damage or injuries occurred.
