Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters rescued eight adults and two children trapped in nearby flats. All were evacuated safely, donning smoke hoods for protection against toxic fumes.
London Ambulance Service treated the survivors at the scene, ensuring everyone received prompt medical attention.
Smoke Hoods Shield Victims from Deadly Gases
Fire crews used special fire escape hoods that protect against four dangerous gases: carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, hydrogen chloride, and acrolein for up to 15 minutes. These hoods can be worn by conscious or unconscious victims, boosting survival chances during smoke-filled escapes.
“Crews worked extremely hard to bring the fire under control in difficult conditions,” said Station Commander Sam Woodhams.
