Chaos erupted on High Road, North Finchley, when flames ripped through the first and second floors of the Tally Ho Pub at 11:05am. Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from across London scrambled to the scene in a major emergency response.
Swift Action Tames Flames, Only One Injured
Thanks to a rapid and organised effort, the London Fire Brigade had the blaze under control by 12:22pm. Smoke inhalation was reported in just one person, who received treatment on site from London Ambulance Service crews. No other injuries have surfaced.
The fire is now contained, but firefighters remain on site to douse lingering hotspots and carry out damping down operations.
Road Closures and Traffic Chaos Grip Local Area
The fire has wreaked havoc on local traffic. High Road southbound from Ballards Lane (Tally Ho Corner) to Woodhouse Road/Kingsway remains closed. This has snarled congestion across nearby streets and forced diversions of numerous London bus routes, including the 13, 112, 125, 134, 221, 263, 383, 460, and SL10.
Community on Edge as Investigation Underway
A total of 13 emergency calls flooded 999 control, highlighting local alarm. Crews from Finchley, Hendon, West Hampstead, Barnet, Kentish Town, and a 32-meter turntable ladder from Paddington all fought the fire.
The cause of the Tally Ho blaze remains unknown. The London Fire Brigade is now probing the incident to uncover what sparked the inferno and to assess damage.
