Reality TV star Gemma Collins, 43, has shared grim news with fans. Her beloved mother, Joan, has been rushed to hospital and is now fighting in intensive care. Gemma took to Instagram with touching snaps of the pair, opening up about the crisis.
“My mum is really ill at the minute, she’s in intensive care. It’s been a hell of a time,” Gemma revealed. “But she is on the mend, thank God.”

This isn’t the first time Joan has faced serious health struggles. She’s a 123 survivor who was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ, a form of early-stage breast cancer, back in 2016. Gemma has praised the NHS for their quick and expert care.
In March 2023, Gemma revealed she was undergoing life-saving gene tests following Joan’s diagnosis. She urged everyone to get regular health screenings and keep their well-being front and centre.
Gemma’s Own Health Battles
Gemma’s courage shines through her own health challenges too. Last year, after a terrifying scare with palpitations and hospitalisation, she was diagnosed with costochondritis — a painful chest condition often mistaken for heart problems.
Despite it all, Gemma continues to inspire. She’s currently appearing on The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer, using her platform to encourage others on health and resilience.
