Isle of Wight Charities Battle for £80,000 Fund
Local good causes have thrown their hats in the ring, with 23 eager applications flooding in for a slice of up to £80,000 from the Isle of Wight Foundation. The charity fund, backed by Island Roads, offers grants from £3,000 to £16,000 aimed at smashing social exclusion across the Island.
Generous Grants Since 2013
Since launching in 2013, the Isle of Wight Foundation has pumped over £250,000 into local charities and community groups. Philip Horton, the Foundation’s chair, said:
“We’re thrilled with the volume of applications but face the tough job of choosing which ones fit our criteria. There are so many worthy causes.”
Cutting Tough Choices Over Summer
This summer, a selection panel made up of Island Roads reps and a community voice will shortlist the projects. They’ll then visit each charity to see how they improve access to jobs and build stronger local communities.
Projects Making an Impact
The Foundation has already backed 25 projects, regularly reporting on the positive changes sparked on the Island. Past beneficiaries include:
- Isle of Wight Beach Soccer
- Wight Horse Equine
- St Catherine’s Speech and Language
- Porchfield and Newtown Village Hall
- Age UK Isle of Wight
- The Bus Shelter
- The Monday Group
- The Wave Project
