Harold Hill Post Office Saved! The Farnham Road branch will stay open as a franchised outlet, securing vital local services for the community.

Franchise Plan Secures Future

The Post Office revealed the Farnham Road branch will no longer close but be run by a retail partner or new postmaster. The new operator’s identity is still under wraps, with the franchise switch set for completion by autumn 2025, subject to government funding.

Nationwide Review Spurs Change

This comes after a November 2024 announcement that 108 directly managed branches, including Harold Hill, were put under review amid a sweeping national shake-up.

Post Office Chair Nigel Railton said:

“Moving to a fully franchised network is one part of enabling the Post Office to deliver a ‘New Deal for Postmasters’, helping create a long-term, sustainable future for the Post Office.”

He stressed the importance of working with unions to protect staff and keep branches in their current or nearby locations wherever possible.

Local Campaigners Celebrate

The positive decision followed a public consultation ending in March and talks with unions, staff, and community representatives.

Local MP Julia Lopez, who spearheaded a petition, welcomed the news:

“I am so glad that the Post Office has decided not to close its Harold Hill branch. This decision reflects the strong support from residents and businesses. I will be following discussions on franchising the branch very closely to ensure it continues to serve our community, especially as the Farnham Road area develops.”

Community Relief

Residents and local businesses breathed a sigh of relief, knowing the branch will continue providing essential services to Harold Hill’s growing community.

A Post Office spokesperson promised more updates on the franchise process soon. Watch this space!
