Tragic Assault on Halifax Street Claims Two Young Lives
Halifax is in shock after two young men, Joshua Clark, 21, and Haidar Shah, 19, died following a brutal assault on Commercial Street early Sunday morning.
The attack happened at around 3:48am when police were called to reports of three men being attacked. Joshua and Haidar later died in hospital from their injuries. A third man suffered non-life-threatening wounds and is currently being treated.
Murder Investigation Underway
The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) has launched a full murder probe into the deaths of the two men.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Holdsworth, leading the investigation, urged witnesses or anyone with footage to get in touch. “We are determined to support the families and bring justice for Joshua and Haidar,” he said.
So far, two 18-year-old men have been released on bail. A 19-year-old remains in police custody. Additionally, an 18-year-old has been arrested suspicion of assisting an offender.
Families Mourn Devastating Loss
Heartbroken families have paid tribute to the victims. Joshua’s family described him as “a kind and beautiful soul who brightened the lives of those around him,” pleading for privacy as they grieve.
Haidar’s family remembered him as a cherished son, brother, uncle, cousin, and nephew, saying “a piece of our hearts is forever lost.” They also thanked friends for their support and urged respect by not sharing social media videos of the incident.
