Crane Carnage! 27-Tonne Monster Crushes Bungalow in Basingstoke
A massive 27-tonne mobile crane crashed through the roof of a bungalow in Basingstoke today after toppling over while lifting a load. The telescopic beast smashed into the house, causing chaos just before 10am.
Operator Trapped But Unhurt in Nail-Biting Rescue
The crane’s cab driver was trapped inside after the giant machine lost balance. Firefighters rushed to the scene and used an aerial platform to get him out safely. Thankfully, he escaped without a scratch.
Wreckage Everywhere: Roof, Wall, and Portable Toilet Smashed
- The crane’s boom hammered through the bungalow’s roof and crushed the front wall.
- An onsite portable toilet was also flattened — but luckily it was empty.
- No residents were inside the property, which was under construction at the time.
Investigation Underway as Second Crane Arrives
The Health and Safety Executive has launched an inquiry into the shocking incident at Pitman Close. A second crane was called in to haul the damaged machine off the wrecked bungalow.
A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue confirmed: “The Aerial Ladder Platform was used to help extricate the man trapped in the cab who fortunately escaped injury. After the stop message at 11:06, one crew remained for vehicle and building stabilisation.”
