A jet skier who suffered a serious head injury off the Isle of Wight has been rescued during an emergency operation involving lifeboat, Coastguard and ambulance crews. Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service (GAFIRS) was tasked to the casualty on Sunday (9 August) following a 999 call reporting that a jet skier had suffered a “serious head injury”. Volunteer lifeboat crews launched from Gosport and reached the casualty within just 15 minutes of the emergency call. The injured person was recovered from the water and brought aboard the lifeboat, where crew members began treating their injuries.
Casualty brought back to Stokes Bay
The casualty was transported across the Solent to Gosport Lifeboat Station at Stokes Bay, where further treatment was provided. They were then handed into the care of South Central Ambulance Service and Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Team for further assessment and treatment. GAFIRS said: “Gosport Lifeboat was tasked to a jet skier off the Isle of Wight with a serious head injury. “He was recovered to the lifeboat, treated for his injuries and transported back to Gosport Lifeboat Station at Stokes Bay. “There he was given further care by the crew and handed over to South Central Ambulance Service and Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Teams for further treatment. “The crew were on station, launched and with the casualty within 15 minutes of the 999 call.” The volunteer rescue service has responded to 64 incidents so far this year. No further information about the casualty’s condition has been released.
