Kitchen Blaze Sparks Panic at Strood Hotel – Guests Evacuated!
Emergency crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service raced to a kitchen fire at a hotel in Strood, Rochester, on Sunday evening (March 23).
Firefighters Douse Flames in Minutes
The alarm went off at 6:24pm, sending two fire engines hurtling to the scene. Firefighters, decked out in breathing apparatus, tackled the blaze head-on using powerful hose reel jets. Remarkably, the fire was extinguished within minutes.
Hotel Evacuated But No Injuries
The hotel was briefly evacuated as a safety precaution. Thankfully, no one was hurt. Guests were soon allowed back inside once the blaze was under control, avoiding a full-scale emergency.
Cause: Pan Left to Burn on Hob
Investigators revealed the fire started when a pan caught alight on the hob – a classic kitchen hazard. The flames were contained to the kitchen, sparing the rest of the hotel from damage.
Fire Service Urges Caution in the Kitchen
“It’s important to take extra care in the kitchen and keep cooking areas clean and clear of anything that could catch fire,” Kent Fire and Rescue warned. “Never leave cooking unattended, and always switch off appliances if you need to leave the room.”
Hotel Back to Business as Usual
With the scene declared safe, the hotel quickly resumed normal operations. Quick action by firefighters prevented serious damage and ensured guests and staff stayed safe.
