Leeds city centre is set for a heavy police presence this Saturday, April 25, as protesters and counter-protesters prepare to hit the streets.

Police Ready to Tackle Disruption

West Yorkshire Police are rolling out extra powers to keep the peace and protect local businesses and shoppers. Officers will work hard to limit the disruption caused by marches and rallies planned in the heart of the city. From midday to 3pm, crowds are expected to gather in City Square and Victoria Gardens. Static protests, speeches, and a march winding around the city centre will take place under strict route controls.

Strict Rules to Keep Order

Authorities have brokered deals with protest organisers to set clear routes and designated zones for assemblies. Extra policing powers will govern start and end times, march paths, and protest zones. These measures will be reviewed throughout the day.

Assistant Chief Constable Damien Miller said: “Our priority on Saturday is to keep people safe, balancing the rights of those who wish to protest with those who may be impacted by it. “Criminal offences and any disorder will not be tolerated. While there may some disruption, we want people using the city centre to be reassured that we are all working together to keep it to a minimum.”
