Lewes Braces for Bonfire Night Chaos!
Lewes is gearing up for its famous Bonfire Night on Tuesday, November 5. But beware – road closures and rail disruptions will cause major headaches for locals and visitors alike. Here’s what you need to know to survive the fiery festivities.
Road Closures Hit From 4:45 PM
From 4:45pm, key roads around Lewes will shut tight as diversions reroute traffic away from the town. Residents should park cars before the deadline to avoid getting stuck. Visitors are urged to leave vehicles at home.
- A27 at the A277 Brighton Road junction (Ashcombe Roundabout)
- A275 Offham Road at B2116 Plumpton Road
- C7 Kingston Road at C324 Wellgreen Lane
- A26 at A2029 Malling Street
- A26 Malling Hill at Church Lane
Parking restrictions kick in from noon. See full road closure details here.
Rail Services Shut Down After 5 PM
Rail travellers, listen up! From 5pm until morning November 6, Lewes station and nearby stops will be closed, including:
- Lewes
- Falmer
- Cooksbridge
- Glynde
- Southease
This year, last trains will allow passengers to disembark as late as possible – a new twist to handle the crowds. Be sure to check your train times carefully, especially if you’re heading back from London. 1
