Race Cut Short as Yacht Crew Faces Sea Drama
The yacht was racing from 123 to the lifesavers upon reaching shore.
Special Firsts for Newhaven Lifeboat Crew
This rescue marked John Simcock’s first-ever shout as volunteer Coxswain and Will Rowell’s debut as an operational crew member.
“I had some nerves at first, but once launched, the training kicked in. We decided towing the yacht back was safer than a risky sea recovery,” said John Simcock.
“The adrenaline when the pager went off for the first time was incredible. Bringing the crew safely home felt amazing,” added Will Rowell.
The lifeboat arrived back in Newhaven by 4pm, with the yacht safely berthed.
