Emergency Lifeboat Launch Sparks Search off Brighton’s West Pier
On Saturday evening, lifeboats from Shoreham and Brighton rushed to the sea after reports of a paddleboarder clinging to a buoy near Brighton’s West Pier. The drama deepened with an unconfirmed sighting of a second person in the water, possibly trying to help the stranded paddler.
Extensive Search Ends With No Trace
The all-weather and inshore lifeboats from Shoreham teamed up with Brighton’s crew to scour the stretch between West Pier and Palace Pier. Despite a thorough search around both piers, rescue teams found no sign of anyone in distress. Eventually, the lifeboats were stood down.
Good Intent Behind The Call, Say Lifeboat Crews
Shoreham Lifeboat praised the quick call from the public, saying: “Our all-weather and inshore lifeboats were called to a report of a paddleboarder clinging to a buoy in the water by the West Pier, Brighton, on Saturday evening.”
Brighton Lifeboat confirmed the mission on social media: “We launched last night to a report of a paddleboarder clinging to a buoy in the sea by the West Pier in #Brighton. Along with @SLifeboatRNLI we carried out an extensive search. Nothing untoward was found and the lifeboat crews were stood down.”
