BBC Local Radio Legend Paul Miller Calls Time After 34 Years

End of an Era for Late Show Host

After 23 years hosting the iconic Late Show across multiple BBC Local Radio stations in the South, Paul Miller has announced he is leaving the BBC later this year. He revealed the news to listeners on Monday night, marking the end of a remarkable 34-year career with the broadcaster.

Miller Says Farewell Amid BBC Local Radio Shake-Up

Miller admitted the decision to quit was tough. Despite being encouraged by management to apply for other roles, he felt it was the right moment to step back. His Late Show ran on BBC Radio Solent, Berkshire, Kent, Oxford, Sussex, and Surrey.

“As you will no doubt be aware, there have been changes at BBC Local Radio recently,” Miller told his audience at 10:30 pm. “Nothing lasts forever. After much thought and discussion, I decided now’s the time to clear out my drawers and get knotted.”

Networked Late Shows Bring Change

Although no official leaving date is set, Miller confirmed it won’t be immediate. Ian Ramsdale, Executive Editor of Radio Solent, paid tribute calling him an “exceptional broadcaster” who always prioritised his listeners.

But Miller’s exit comes as the BBC plans to network the late show slot across all of England, sharing more programming between local stations—a move stirring mixed feelings among fans.
