London City Airport Declared Safe After Chemical Scare
Chaos hit London City Airport this afternoon as a suspected chemical incident sparked a major emergency response. Three fire engines and specialist units rushed to the scene after reports of a hazardous situation.
Mass Evacuation and Emergency Treatment
About 500 staff and passengers were evacuated amid fears of exposure. London Ambulance crews treated 26 people who complained of breathing difficulties. Two were taken to hospital as a precaution.
Thorough Search Finds No Danger
Firefighters and police donned full protective gear to conduct two full sweeps of the airport. Luckily, no harmful substances or elevated readings were found. The building was ventilated and declared completely safe.
The fire brigade was called at 4:11pm and stood down by 7pm. Crews from Hornsey, East Ham, Stratford, and Bethnal Green fire stations were involved in the swift response.
