The M271 northbound near Southampton is completely closed between Redbridge Roundabout (A35) and Junction 1 (Lordshill Industrial Estate, A3057). An HGV has overturned on the central reservation, spilling a large amount of diesel and causing chaos on the roads.

Hampshire Police and Highways England teams are already at the scene. Recovery and clean-up crews are racing to get the dangerous spill cleared. The road will remain shut until the truck can be safely righted and the diesel cleaned up.

  • From Redbridge Roundabout, follow signs with the black diamond symbol.
  • Take the A35/A33 eastbound to Millbrook Roundabout.
  • Exit onto Terbourba Way (A35).
  • Turn left onto the A3057 Romsey Road northbound.
  • At Brownhill Way roundabout, take the first exit onto Brownhill Way.
  • Continue to Junction 1 of the M271.
