Cyber Attack Hits Major London Hospitals: Procedures Cancelled and Delayed
A massive cyber attack has slammed several key London hospitals, forcing cancellations and redirecting vital procedures. King’s College Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’ – including the Royal Brompton and Evelina London Children’s Hospital – along with primary care services, have all been hit.
Blood Transfusions and Critical Services Disrupted
The malware strike, which hit on Monday, targeted pathology systems at King’s College Hospital Foundation Trust and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust – two of the UK’s largest hospital trusts. This has caused major disruptions, with blood transfusions particularly affected.
Departments struggled to connect to main servers, creating delays and halting some critical services. NHS trusts have labelled the incident a “major impact” on patient care.
A&E Still Open But NHS Urges Caution
Despite the chaos, A&E departments remain open for emergencies. However, the wider NHS community is being urged to use services sensibly during this ongoing crisis.
Officials warn that the cyber attack continues to strain resources, and recovery efforts are underway to restore normal operations.
