Major Roadworks Hit Cowes: Newport Road Resurfacing Starts June 26
Island Roads is set to resurface a key stretch of Newport Road—the main artery into Cowes. The work will take place overnight between the Three Gates Road roundabout and the northern Mill Hill Road junction to keep disruption to a minimum.
Night-Time Road Closures to Slash Traffic Chaos
The project kicks off on June 26 and will run for six nights straight. Roads will shut from 7.30pm to 6am, but pedestrians can still get through when it’s safe. No work will happen over the weekends.
Residents are being prepped with detailed letters explaining how the roadworks might affect their daily routines.
Expect Detours and Delays
During closures, drivers will be diverted via Mill Hill Road, Victoria Road, Park Road, Place Road, Nodes Road, and Three Gates Road. Island Roads construction boss Keith Gourlay admitted the road “is in need of an upgrade.”
“This is a busy road into the town and those who use it will know that it is in need of an upgrade,” said Gourlay. “We hope that the long-term improvements we will deliver to this section will more than offset any short-term localised disruption. As always though, we would like to thank residents in advance for their co-operation and understanding.”
Get ready for smoother journeys on Newport Road — but brace for some overnight inconvenience while the work is underway.
