Young man, 27, dies in horror Sydenham car crash
A 27-year-old driver tragically died after crashing his car into a tree on Cator Road, Sydenham, southeast London, late Sunday night.
Emergency crews rush to scene
The smash happened just before 10pm on April 27. Police, London Ambulance Service, Fire Brigade, and London’s Air Ambulance all raced to the scene following reports of a serious collision.
Despite frantic efforts, paramedics were forced to declare the driver dead on the spot.
Police confirm fatal crash
“On Sunday, April 27, 9.53pm, police were called to Cator Road, Sydenham, to reports of a road traffic collision between a driver and a tree. Officers attended the scene alongside London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade, and London’s Air Ambulance. Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the driver, a 27-year-old man, died at the scene. His next of kin are aware.”
Road closure and investigation ongoing
The road was shut for several hours overnight to allow police to investigate and recover the vehicle. It has now fully reopened.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but police say no other vehicles were involved.
Police urge witnesses to come forward
Local residents reported a huge emergency response with road closures lasting through the night.
