Tragic Site Death in Hackney: Man Crushed by Falling Girder
Firefighters and paramedics rushed to a Hackney building site this afternoon after a metal girder fell while being lifted by a crane, crushing a worker.
Desperate Rescue Attempt Ends in Tragedy
The London Fire Brigade was called at 1.31pm to East Road, Hoxton. Two engines from Shoreditch and Islington, plus a fire rescue unit from Euston Fire Station, battled to free the man but he sadly died at the scene.
Investigation Launched by Authorities
The Health and Safety Executive has stepped in to probe the accident. They are working alongside the Metropolitan Police, who are informing the victim’s next of kin.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called at 1.25pm on Tuesday, December 21 by the London Ambulance Service to a building site on East Road, Hoxton. A man was reported to have been struck by a falling object. London Fire Brigade and London’s Air Ambulance also attended. Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are working to inform his next of kin.”
The construction site remains cordoned off as investigators continue their work.
