Serious Crash Shuts Down Key Croydon Road
A serious smash in Croydon late last night has left a man in hospital and a vital road completely closed, causing chaos for local traffic.
Crash at London Road and Winterbourne Road
The collision happened around 10:25pm on September 1 at the busy junction of London Road and Winterbourne Road in Thornton Heath. Emergency crews, including the London Ambulance Service and Metropolitan Police, rushed to the scene following reports of a serious crash.
A man was found injured and treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to hospital. His condition remains unclear as officials have yet to provide a health update.
Road Closure Causes Major Disruption
London Road is now closed both ways between the Lidl supermarket and Warwick Road, a key stretch linking Norbury and Thornton Heath. This has led to significant delays and disruption across the area. Bus routes 60 and 109 have been diverted as a result.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 10:26pm to reports of a road traffic collision. We sent ambulance crews and a paramedic in a fast-response car. Our crews treated a male patient at the scene before taking him to hospital.”
Police Investigation Underway
The Met Police are currently probing the crash to establish what caused it. Motorists and residents are urged to avoid the area and find alternative routes while the road remains shut.
Officials said they are working to reopen London Road as soon as possible, but no timeline has been given yet.
