Police Raid Secret Dulwich Tunnel Rave Setup
Met officers from Lambeth and Southwark, teaming up with Southwark Council’s Wildlife Department, have smashed a planned Unlicensed Music Event (UME) in a disused railway tunnel in Dulwich Wood.
Sound Gear, Bar & DJ Decks Found Hidden
On Wednesday, 6 January, cops and council officials arrived to find the tunnel gates locked. After forcing entry, they discovered a full rave setup: sound equipment, barriers, a temporary bar, and a DJ table all ready to go.
A large black curtain concealed the entrance, signalling attempts to keep the bash under wraps.
Illegal Party Threatens Local Bats and Residents
The seized gear is now in police custody. Police Sergeant Jonathan Adams said: “This old railway tunnel was known to us as a spot for illegal raves, probably spreading Covid and risking public safety.”
He added: “The tunnel is also a protected habitat for bats. These parties disrupt not only local people but endangered wildlife too.”
Council Cracks Down on Reckless Ravers
Council Cabinet Member Evelyn Akoto slammed the would-be partygoers: “I’m horrified anyone would risk their own and others’ health by attending an illegal rave during the pandemic.”
She vowed ongoing support for the police, saying: “Together we’ll continue to hunt down and shut illegal rave locations to stop these dangerous, thoughtless events.”
