Highway Crackdown Nets 108 Road Safety Offenders
Road policing officers blitzed a major safety operation, clocking up 856 miles and cracking down on dangerous drivers. The joint effort saw the Roads Policing Unit team up with the DVSA, safety camera vans, and the Commercial Vehicle Unit to clean up the roads.
Speeders, Phone Users and Dangerous Drivers Caught
During the day-long clampdown, 108 offenders were spotted. Warnings flew for loose loads and bad lane discipline. But 48 speeding motorists were nailed, alongside those caught on mobiles, driving without care, or even while disqualified. Two vehicles were seized—one for no tax, another driven by a disqualified motorist without insurance. Three more vehicles were prohibited until faults were fixed.
Officer Issues Stark Warning as Wet Weather Raises Risks
PC Jay Dewane from the Roads Policing Unit said: “The safety of our roads is the responsibility of all who are using them. Too often, we see the devastating impact incidents can have on people, and it is vitally important that everyone does what they can to ensure their own and other people’s safety while at the wheel.”
“Yesterday was a wet day, and while the vast majority are driving in a safe manner, it is disappointing to see the risks some people are still taking the dangers this can cause.”
“The message really is simple, it is not worth the risk. The results of an incident on the roads can be catastrophic, so please do all you can to ensure you are driving in a safe manner and your vehicle is in a legal condition.”
