Kent Firefighters Launch Massive Smoke Alarm Blitz
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) is launching a huge campaign to slash fire risks across the county. On Thursday, 7 April, hundreds of firefighters will hit the streets for their ‘Fight Against Fire’ mission – testing and fitting as many smoke alarms as possible in a single day. And the best part? It’s completely free.
Firefighters Knock Your Door – Know What to Expect
Uniformed fire crews will be offering quick 10-minute home visits, where they’ll:
- Test existing smoke alarms
- Relocate or install new alarms if needed
- Give fire prevention advice
- Answer any fire safety questions
KFRS Chief Exec Ann Millington said:
“Working smoke alarms save lives. We recommend one on every floor of your home. They warn you early, giving precious minutes to escape, call 999, and let our crews limit damage and save lives.”
She added:
“We’re raring to go for the Challenge but need residents to answer the door and let us in. Always ask to see ID – every firefighter will carry official Kent Fire and Rescue Service photo ID and can provide a number to confirm their identity.”
How to Identify Official Firefighters
- They’ll wear KFRS uniforms and carry photo ID
- Fire engines or marked KFRS vehicles will be nearby
- They’ll never ask for money or bank details
- No visit will happen without your permission and presence
Some visits may include non-uniformed staff who are training alongside the firefighters.
Ongoing Fire Safety Home Visits – Book Yours Today

Startling Stats Show Why This Matters
Nearly a quarter (23%) of domestic fires KFRS attended in 2020-2021 had no working smoke alarms, putting lives, homes, and loved ones at serious risk.
Don’t wait – when the firefighters knock on 7 April, open the door. It could save your life.
