New Zebra Crossing and Footpath Upgrades Coming to Seaview and Gunville on the Isle of Wight
The Isle of Wight Council, teaming up with Island Roads, is set to launch two major footpath improvement projects in Seaview and Gunville starting 29 February.
Seaview Footpath Overhaul: Safer Walks Ahead
Work kicks off on Bullen Road, between Pondwell Close and Gregory Avenue, lasting around four weeks. To keep locals safe, temporary traffic lights and barriers will be up for three weeks, plus a full road closure for a few days to allow tree felling. During closures, drivers will be diverted via Marlborough Road, Appley Road, and Calthorpe Road.
The upgrade will build a new footway connecting Pondwell Close to Gregory Avenue, along with traffic calming measures to slow down vehicles. Unfortunately, the existing tree at the corner of Pondwell Close and a hedge near Gregory Avenue will be removed to make way for improvements.
Gunville Gets Wider Zebra Crossing
Work on Gunville Road, Carisbrooke, will bring forward plans to replace the old, uncontrolled crossing with a wider zebra crossing. The project runs until the week ending 20 March.
Expect two-way temporary traffic signals as work shifts from one side of the road to the other, ensuring minimal disruption while keeping traffic flowing.
Council and Island Roads Promise Safer Streets
“These projects form part of our Local Transport Plan commitments,” said Councillor Phil Jordan, Isle of Wight Council Executive member for public protection and PFI. “We look forward to the safer traffic calming measures and enhanced footways once completed. Residents will soon enjoy safer roads.”
Kevin Burton, network manager at Island Roads, added: “We apologise for any inconvenience during the works but are confident the new safety upgrades will benefit pedestrians and drivers alike.”
With these upgrades, the Isle of Wight takes another step toward safer, smarter roads for all.
