Isle of Wight Roads Get a Makeover Over Summer Holidays
Key School Routes Set for Resurfacing
Big roadworks are coming to the Isle of Wight this summer – but the timing is spot on. Several major roads near schools will be resurfaced during the school holidays to dodge disruption for pupils, parents, and staff.
Expect work on Furrlongs, Perowne Way, Watergate Road, Recreation Ground Road, and Wilver Road – all in Newport – starting later this month. These key routes will get a fresh new carriageway to keep traffic smooth and safe.
Local Residents to Get Early Notice
Residents close to these works will soon receive detailed info about daytime schedules. Signs will be up at the sites, highlighting when the roadworks happen and any detours in place.
Island Roads: “We Put Schools First”
Keith Gourlay, Construction Manager at Island Roads, said: “Wherever practical, we try to schedule our works to minimise disruption and these roads are a case in point. Given the locations, we would endeavour to avoid work during term time because of the impact it would have in terms of the school communities.
“It’s not always possible to avoid working near schools during term time, but we concentrate major work around holidays whenever we can.
“We appreciate there will still be some disruption to local residents and thank them for their patience. We hope everyone will notice the visible improvements once the job is done.”
