Four iconic hotels steeped in Scandinavian history have teamed up with Nordic Choice Hotels from March 22. Oscarsborg Festning, Reenskaug Hotel, Kongsvinger Festning in Norway, and Torreby Slott in Sweden have long been beloved landmarks – now they’re stepping up to bigger things with this strategic partnership.
Boosting Heritage with Modern Muscle
Tony Eide, Chairman and GM at The Fortress Hotels, explained the thinking behind the move: “Utilisation is the best protection.” Guests get to soak in historic vibes while enjoying modern comforts and upgraded experiences. Joining a giant like Nordic Choice means these hotels can now reach far more travellers with better support and smarter tech.
Collaboration Beats Competition
This isn’t your average alliance. It’s a bold attempt to fend off global booking giants by pooling resources and promoting Nordic travel within the region. Bjørn Arild Wisth, Deputy CEO of Nordic Choice, said:

Cutting Out the Middlemen
The four Fortress Hotels boast 149 rooms, including spacious suites, plus top-notch banquet and conference facilities. As a small player, The Fortress Hotels were hit hard by hefty booking fees. Eide says linking up with Nordic Choice opens doors to more direct bookings from loyal members and corporate clients.
“Nordic Choice has become a tourism sensation, with standout hotels like Amerikalinjen, Villa 1 and Sommerro. We’re excited to join forces and tap into this growing buzz.”
Strawberry Rebrand and Future Growth
Last year, Nordic Choice revealed plans to rebrand as Strawberry, aiming for big growth in members and partnerships. Wisth teased more announcements on the horizon:
