Angry Driver Follows Cyclist Before Shunting Him on Dorset Road
A cyclist was left shaken after a driver, spotted using a mobile phone, chased and collided with him in Poole, Dorset.
Road Rage on Herbert Avenue
It all kicked off at around 5.20pm on Tuesday, 22 November 2022, on Herbert Avenue, between Newlyn Way and Northmere Road. The cyclist, a man in his 50s wearing a high-vis jacket and flashing bike lights, noticed a driver in a dark blue hatchback seemingly glued to his phone at the traffic lights. Taking a polite stand, the cyclist knocked on the car window, urging the driver to put the phone down.
Driver Turns Furious and Follows Cyclist
Instead of backing down, the driver shouted at the cyclist, then followed him as the traffic restarted. The chase continued down Northmere Road and Sancreed Road, where the driver rammed the cyclist from behind. Fortunately, the cyclist’s injuries weren’t serious, but the motorist sped off without stopping.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
“This was a very distressing incident for the cyclist involved and we are carrying out a number of enquiries into this matter,” said PC Matthew Batter from Poole Police.
“I urge anyone who witnessed what happened or has dashcam footage to get in touch. We also encourage the driver to do the right thing and come forward.”
