Operation Brock Barrier Set to Come Down This Weekend
The controversial Operation Brock contraflow on the M20 is being removed this weekend. Kent Resilience Forum (KRF) chiefs say the disruption risk has dropped now that summer holidays are underway.
Why Is the Barrier Coming Down?
The move comes after passenger booking forecasts showed a dip, along with faster check-ins at Channel border points. KRF partners will keep a close eye on traffic and can redeploy the barrier at a moment’s notice if needed.
Simon Jones, Kent County Council’s Highways Director and KRF Strategic Lead, said:
“After a problem-free week, we’re pleased to say the barrier is coming down. But it will be stored safely on the hard shoulder, ready to go back up if needed.
“Whenever we put traffic controls in place, there’s a solid reason behind it. And we always do everything we can to remove them as soon as possible.”
“Our goal is to keep Kent moving smoothly, help travellers reach their destinations safely, and protect local residents and businesses from disruption. Operation Brock is key to these plans.”
Flexibility to Respond Quickly
Nicola Bell, Highways England Regional Director, added:
“Deploying the barrier was the right call to prepare for any disruption. The system’s flexibility lets us remove and redeploy it quickly if Channel port issues flare up again.
“We thank the public for their patience and are eager to restore full capacity on the M20.”
Stay Prepared on Kent Roads
Despite the removal, KRF, Highways England, the Department for Transport, and Kent County Council advise motorists to always expect potential delays in Kent.
