Paddington Firefighters Smash £70k Goal for Grenfell Victims
A team of nine heroes from Paddington’s Red Watch has raised over £70,000 to support Grenfell Tower victims and their families. These brave firefighters, some of the first on the scene during the tragic June 14th blaze, are going above and beyond to help rebuild lives.
From Frontline Trauma to Marathon Challenge
The Grenfell fire was a devastating event with a huge loss of life and countless residents displaced from their homes with nothing but the clothes they wore. “We did our utmost that night alongside all our LFB colleagues, but sadly could not stop the tragedy,” said one firefighter.
The emotional and physical toll on the crews has been immense. Supported by The Firefighters Charity, which aids those suffering injury and PTSD, the team decided to take action.
They’re tackling the 2018 Virgin London Marathon in full firefighting kit – including breathing apparatus. That’s a hefty 30kg load each, turning an epic challenge into a near-impossible feat.
Local Charities at the Heart of the Cause
Every penny raised will go straight to the locals. The firefighters chose two key community groups:
- The Harrow Club – Offering young people vital support and activities, this charity has been a lifeline for Grenfell’s youth since the disaster.
- Rugby Portobello Trust – With over 100 years of service, it helps with rehousing, parenting support, and runs a community café.
Funds will be split equally between these two and The Firefighters Charity, ensuring vital support for victims and the heroes who serve them.
Giving Back to the Everyday Heroes
The Firefighters Charity backs fire crews nationwide, offering help to those injured or battling mental trauma from their front-line work. All chosen charities are officially recognised Beta Charity Commission approved organisations—meaning your donations are in safe hands.
