Freeze alert: Kent braces for icy blast tonight
New Warning Hits North and West Kent
The Met Office has slapped a fresh weather warning across large swathes of north and west Kent, including Maidstone, Medway, and Sheerness. The alert runs from 9pm tonight until 10am tomorrow, signalling a chilly night ahead.
Snow, Sleet and Frost Set to Batter the Region
Earlier today, a level two cold alert was issued for the South East by the UK Health Security Agency and Met Office, lasting until midnight on Thursday.
- Light snow expected in Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks
- Sleet forecast for Medway, Thanet, Dartford, Dover, and other areas
- Widespread frost, ice, and wintry showers predicted
Temperatures could plunge as low as -3°C, turning the roads into slick, icy traps.
Kent Council Sounds the Alarm – Look Out for the Vulnerable
Cold weather can affect anyone,” warns Dr Anjan Ghosh, Kent County Council’s director of public health. “The elderly, frail, and those with health issues are most at risk—from heart attacks and flu to slips, injuries, and hypothermia.”
“Keep homes warm, even if it’s just the bedroom and living room. Watch out for vulnerable neighbours and family. A little care can save lives.”
After December Snow Chaos, Residents Urged to Prepare
Kent suffered heavy snow in December, causing several road accidents and disruption. This week’s chill promises below-average temperatures and hazardous conditions, especially overnight.
Severe cold weather alerts trigger NHS and social care services to ramp up support for vulnerable locals.
Stay warm, stay safe, and look out for each other this week.
