Met Office Sounds Cold Alarm Over Kent Snow and Sleet

The Met Office has slapped a fresh weather warning on north and west Kent, covering Maidstone, Medway, and Sheerness. The alert kicks in from 9pm tonight until 10am tomorrow.

Snow, Sleet and Icy Conditions Roil Kent

Earlier today, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and Met Office issued a level two cold weather alert for the entire south east, in place until midnight Thursday.

  • Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks brace for light snow.
  • Sleet expected across much of Kent, including Dartford, Dover, Medway, Thanet, and Sheppey.
  • Temperatures are plunging to lows of -3°C in spots, triggering warnings of frost, ice, and wintry showers.

Kent County Council (KCC) is urging locals to look out for vulnerable friends, family, and neighbours as bitter cold takes hold.

Public Health Boss Warns: Stay Warm, Stay Safe

“Cold weather can affect anyone,” said KCC’s director of public health, Dr Anjan Ghosh. “The elderly, frail, and those with health issues face higher risks from heart attacks, flu, falls, injuries, and hypothermia.”

“Keep your home warm, even if just the bedroom and living room. Check in on vulnerable neighbours and help out where you can. Staying warm and united can save lives.”

Winter Woes: Remember December’s Snow Chaos

Heavy December snowfall caused mayhem across Kent with multiple road accidents. Officials warn this week’s below-average temperatures, especially overnight, could spell trouble once again.

Every winter, thousands succumb to the cold. The Met Office and UKHSA’s alerts trigger NHS and community action to protect vulnerable locals during severe weather spells.
