UK Rail Strike Chaos: Half the Network to Shut on June 21, 23, and 25
Thousands of rail workers are set to walk out this June, grinding Britain’s railways to a near halt. Network Rail warns that HALF of all rail lines will be closed on the 21st, 23rd, and 25th of June.
Major Service Cuts and Early Finish Times
- Trains will only run from 7.30am to 6.30pm during strike days.
- Many areas will see no trains at all, including Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Penzance.
- Passenger services suspended to Bournemouth, Swansea, Holyhead, Chester, and Blackpool.
The vital West Coast Main Line — linking London with Scotland via Birmingham and Manchester — is also heavily affected.
Timetables Slashed: Last Trains Leave Hours Early
- Final trains will depart much earlier than normal:
- Manchester to London last train at 2:47pm
- Norwich to London last train at 4pm
- London to [destination] last train at 3pm
Rural and district lines will bear the brunt of the disruption.
Widespread Chaos Even on Non-Strike Days
Network Rail says the week of June 20-26 will see just 4,500 services running — a drastic drop from the usual 20,000. Even on days without strikes, only around 60% of trains will operate, prolonging travel misery across the country.
