Heron Ward in Line for £900K Revamp
The 19-bed Heron Ward is set for a £900,000 facelift. The upgrade will bring a brand new reception and nurses’ station. Patients will enjoy fresh décor, new flooring, and LED lighting designed to be dementia-friendly.
Comfort and Care Take Centre Stage
Ward Matron Alison Read said, “We are excited to give Heron Ward a new lease of life, improving facilities for patients and colleagues. We’ve carefully planned how to make the space work better for patients, making it easier to find their way and enjoy a more relaxing, comfortable stay.”
Senior Sister Bamlin Thomas added, “Some single rooms will feature French doors opening onto the garden. This will help patients, especially those in end-of-life care, to enjoy the outdoor space more.”
New Ownership and Temporary Moves
Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust now owns the hospital building, thanks to a Department of Health initiative allowing local NHS providers to take over sites from NHS Property Services.
Work on the Heron Ward starts in May, with a reopening planned for September. During renovations, inpatients needing rehab will be cared for by the same team at Westbrook House in Margate. Outpatient services at QVMH remain unaffected – appointments go ahead as usual.
