Brighton Council Plans Radical Road Closure to Curb Crashes
Brighton and Hove City Council is set to shake up Trafalgar Street with fresh road safety measures. The spotlight is on Blackman Street’s risky junction with Trafalgar Street, where accidents have piled up.
Six Crashes Spark Safety Alarm
Over the last three years, six collisions have caused injuries at this notorious junction. Drivers turning out of Blackman Street often struggle with poor visibility, leading to crashes involving cars, pedestrians, and cyclists.
Blackman Street Closure Proposed
To tackle the danger, the Brighton & Hove Economic Partnership wants to shut Blackman Street at Trafalgar Street. The rest of Blackman Street, between Cheapside and the car park, will stay open two-way. Cyclists will still have access too, similar to the existing Station Street closure.
This move aims to slash accidents and make the area safer for everyone.
