Brighton Council Targets Dangerous Junction for a Safety Makeover

Collision Hotspot on Blackman and Trafalgar Streets

Brighton and Hove City Council is cracking down on road safety in the Trafalgar Street area. The junction of Blackman Street and Trafalgar Street has been flagged as a priority after six crashes causing injuries over three years.

Most accidents happen when vehicles exit Blackman Street, colliding with other cars, pedestrians, or cyclists. Poor visibility is a major culprit.

Council Proposes Road Closure to Cut Crashes

To tackle the problem, Brighton & Hove Economic Partnership suggests closing Blackman Street at its junction with Trafalgar Street.

Traffic could still flow both ways on Blackman Street between Cheapside and the car park. Crucially, the street would remain open for cyclists, mirroring the existing Station Street closure.

The council hopes these moves will slash collisions and make the area safer for all road users.
