QE2 Bridge Shut After Midnight Drama
Kent and Essex Police shut the QE2 Bridge after a tense police incident just after midnight. Officers were called at 12:20am Tuesday following a report from Highways England about a person spotted on the bridge in distress.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Highways England staff and Kent Police raced to the scene. Traffic was halted as specialist officers engaged with the individual. Gravesend lifeboat was also launched to assist in the delicate situation.
Motorists Stuck for Hours, Frustration Grows
Hundreds of drivers were trapped in their cars, gridlocked from just past midnight until nearly 2am. Some drivers honked in frustration as the wait dragged on.
Person Safely Coped, Bridge Reopens
Despite tough conditions, officers successfully coaxed the person down. They are now in custody and will receive mental health support. At 1:50am, the bridge reopened with all restrictions lifted, and traffic was allowed to flow again.
