Train Recovery at Ramsgate Hit by Delay – Rescue Set for New Year
Efforts to recover a derailed high-speed train at Ramsgate’s railway maintenance depot have been pushed back until the new year, Southeastern and Network Rail have confirmed.
Low-Speed Derailment Causes Big Headache
The train came off the tracks on 28 November while moving slowly in a siding. Luckily, there were no passengers onboard and nobody was hurt.
Specialist Gear Needed – Recovery Plan Held Up
A Southeastern and Network Rail spokesperson said:
“We have a plan to re-rail and recover the damaged train at Ramsgate; however, given the need to use specialist equipment, this will now be rescheduled for early next year.”
The recovery is no simple feat. Heavy machinery and expert handling are needed, causing the delay.
Services Largely Unaffected, But Train Still Stuck
The derailed blue high-speed train remains surrounded by trees in undergrowth at the depot. Despite this, passenger train services have not suffered major disruptions.
Network Rail and Southeastern promise a quick and safe resolution as they tackle the tricky logistics of moving massive rail equipment from tight sidings.
Expect official updates on the recovery timeline in the new year as the drama unfolds.
