Former Reform UK Candidate Quits Over BNP Blog Posts
Grant StClair-Armstrong, ex-Reform UK hopeful, has resigned after historic blog posts emerged showing support for the far-right British National Party (BNP). He described the posts as “daft and inappropriate” following an investigation by The Times.
Shock BNP Endorsement from 2010 Blog
On his 2010 blog Joli Triste, StClair-Armstrong vented his frustration with the UK’s state. His controversial line read: “I could weep now, every time I pick up a British newspaper and read the latest about the state of the UK. No doubt, Enoch Powell would be doing the same if he was alive. My solution … vote BNP!”
Still on Ballot, but Running as Independent
Despite quitting Reform UK, StClair-Armstrong will remain on the ballot as their candidate for North West Essex due to nomination deadlines. However, if elected, he will serve as an independent MP.
Reform UK Distances Itself Amid Far-Right Fallout
A Reform UK spokesperson condemned the remarks, calling them the result of a “difficult and angry time” in StClair-Armstrong’s life. “He regrets them, and has resigned,” they said.
StClair-Armstrong has since slammed the BNP and far-right groups. Speaking to The Times, he said, “I’ve got no excuses for that. I think they’re a disgusting party. I don’t like the English Defence League. I don’t like them.” He blamed Reform UK pressure for his stepping down.
Timing Bad for Nigel Farage as Reform UK Readies New Manifesto
The scandal hits just as Nigel Farage is set to launch Reform UK’s new manifesto in Merthyr Tydfil today. Farage plans to unveil a “contract” with voters and promise a “crusade to defend British values,” targeting Labour’s record.
