MP Under Police Investigation for Breaking Covid Rules After Travel
An urgent probe is underway after a Member of Parliament reportedly flouted Covid-19 rules by travelling on a train while infected.
MP Reports Herself to Police
On Thursday, 1 October, the MP contacted Police Scotland to admit she may have breached the Health Protection Regulations 2020.
The alleged offence took place earlier that week. Despite testing positive for Covid-19, she travelled by train on Tuesday, 29 September, from London to Glasgow.
Police Take Action
Following the MP’s admission, Police Scotland consulted with officers from the Metropolitan Police and British Transport Police.
An official investigation into potential Covid-19 offences is now underway.
Parliamentary Authorities Notified
The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards has been informed of the situation and will monitor developments closely.
